I have always wanted to try out the process of slip casting and as this module calls for multiples, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to proceed with this technique. Last week Pete from ceramics helped to teach me how to slip cast and this week using the two-part moulds I previously made with Mark, and ran through an induction into the glaze room while we mixed up a glaze. It is such a long drawn out process to weigh out all the elements for a glaze. I doubt I’ll be doing it on a regular basis!
Slip casting seemed to go well. While he was running through it with me, I produced two and then this week I managed to complete another two. They need to dry out before I bisque fire then. I don’t intend to glaze them; I like the matt quality of the clay as it compliments the glass lamp shades and changes the expectations of a normal glass light bulb.
